14,200 COLOSSAL WATER BALL PRODUCTS RECALLED IN THE UNITED STATES

According to a report by the United States Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC), about 14,200 Colossal Water Ball products have been recalled in the United States along with 1,200 in Canada. The marble-sized toys were manufactured in China and imported by Be Amazing! Toys, a company based in Salt Lake City.

The water-absorbing polymer balls were sold in two varieties: Monster Science Colossal Water Balls and Super Star Science! Colossal Water Balls. Their model numbers were #7255 and #7704, respectively. Each Monster Science package comes with eight balls of various colors and “Growth Powder.” Super Star Science! packages contain five balls of various colors. The name of the toy, a star logo, and a warning are printed on the front of the packaging. Model numbers can be found on the back.

Although no injury incidents were reported, the products were determined to pose an ingestion hazard. The small balls can grow up to 400 times their original size and obstruct a child’s intestinal tract. A similar product was ingested by an eight-month-old girl and had to be surgically removed.

The products were sold nationwide at various specialty retailers and on popular online shopping sites from September 2010 through November 2012.
