35,000 Evenflo High Chairs Recalled due to Fall Hazard

A risk of product failure and falling for children has led to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalling 35,000 convertible high chairs distributed by Miamisburg, Ohio-based company Evenflo Inc. The activity tray of the high chair, which is snapped in place in front of the sitting child, has been found to unexpectedly detach from the chair. If the child is not restrained in the chair, this could easily lead to a falling accident.

Currently, there have been 18 incidents of trays detaching reported to Evenflo and eight reports of children falling as a result from their high chairs. Thankfully, only bumps and bruises have been reported as being suffered, but the toll could be much greater under different circumstances.

The Evenflo high chairs convert from a high chair to a toddler-sized table and chair to accommodate for a child’s growth and are separated into three models, each with their own number, which are all included in the recall. The models are:

• Dottie Lime – Model number 29111259
• Dottie Rose – Model number 29111271
• Marianna – Model number 29111234

These chairs were sold at Toys “R” Us, Walmart, Walmart.com, and Wayfair.com from December 2011 through June 2012 for approximately $40.
