SNORKELING MASKS FOR KIDS RECALLED DUE TO LACERATION RISKS

The Martinique LX Jr. Youth Snorkeling Mask sets sold at Costco have been recalled, according to a bulletin from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The tempered glass that makes up the lens of the snorkeling mask can break under certain conditions, creating a risk of cuts or other damage to the child’s face.

So far, Aqua Lung Inc., which manufactures the face masks, has received eight reports of cracking or breaking in the lens. Four people were injured with cuts or scratches to the face when the lens broke.

About 44,000 snorkeling masks are affected by the recall. They were sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale stores from November 2010 to July 2011. The affected masks are blue, with a silver frame around the glass lens. The U.S. Divers logo appears on the mask’s bridge and on the lens.
