Membership is by invitation only, and each lawyer or judge must:
- Be a member of the Bar of the State, province, district, or territory where they practice
- Exhibit high personal character
- Follow ABOTA’s Code of Professionalism
- Adhere to ABOTA’s Principles of Civility, Integrity, and Professionalism
- Have 5 or more years of experience as a trial lawyer
- Have tried 20 or more civil jury trials to conclusion
- Have additional litigation experience
Founded in 1958, ABOTA is comprised of more than 7,600 renowned lawyers and judges throughout the United States. The association’s central focus is preserving and upholding the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees every citizen’s right to a civil jury trial.
