I-880 Crash Claims The Life Of Milpitas Man

A 19-year-old man from Milpitas lost his life recently in a car accident on I-880 in San Jose, according to a recent article in the Mercury News.

The man was a passenger in a Chevy Cobalt that had been traveling down I-880 near San Jose’s Gish Road when it left the roadway, tumbled down an embankment, and rolled over. The 19-year-old was thrown from the vehicle during the crash and suffered fatal injuries. Investigators have not said whether or not he was wearing a seat belt during the accident. Seat belts have been shown to reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of death or ejection from the vehicle in a rollover crash.

The driver of the other car, another 19-year-old, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators have not said whether or not he was wearing a seat belt either.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is still trying to determine what caused the accident, and they have not yet ruled out any possible causes. While driver error is a possible cause of any car crash, it is not the only one; inclement weather, dangerous roadways, or defects in a vehicle can also cause serious injuries or deaths on San Jose roads.

Car accidents can cause serious injuries or death, especially if a person is ejected from the vehicle during a rollover.
