Woman Dies after Crashing into Big Rig on I-880 in Milpitas

A San Jose woman died on June 11 after crashing into a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 880 in Milpitas. As reported by the San Jose Mercury News, the woman had apparently drifted on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway when she ran into the back of the big rig, suffering fatal injuries.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that the woman was driving a 2004 Acura just after midnight when the accident occurred and she slammed into the big rig. The vehicle became pinned between the truck and the highway’s sound wall, and although she was wearing a seat belt, she was fatally injured in the crash. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the accident and no causes have been announced.

This Santa Clara County fatal truck accident is only one of many that happen in northern California every year. When a truck and smaller vehicle collide, it is often the occupants of the smaller car that feel the most and worst effects, as even the safest vehicles cannot stop all of the damage caused by colliding with a large, heavy, and possibly fast-moving tractor-trailer. Those who survive such crashes often suffer serious harm which may take expensive medical care to recover from, if ever.
