Man Struck, Killed by Truck While Walking on Highway 1 in Capitola

Police are currently investigating the death of a 63-year-old man from Soquel who was killed when he was struck by a truck on Highway 1. According to The Contra Costa Times, the accident occurred just before 8 a.m. on June 20 when the man was struck by a truck while on foot on the highway.

While the exact details are not clear currently, witnesses have said that the victim somehow got in front of a truck travelling in the right hand lane. Drivers had to swerve to avoid the body and CHP soon closed the right-hand lane, backing up traffic for the next two hours. Officials have stated that the truck driver will not face charges for the Capitola fatal truck crash. Additionally, officials have stated that they will not be releasing speed estimates or many other details concerning the accident out of respect for the deceased’s family.

Because of the large and heavy nature of trucks and the frequently fast speeds at which accidents occur, those involved in such crashes are often injured. However, it is often those not in the big rig, whether they are in passenger vehicles, riding motorcycles, or on foot, who suffer the worst injuries. In the cases of a pedestrian and truck collision, the pedestrian will unfortunately suffer fatal injuries frequently.

At Caputo & Van Der Walde LLP, our Capitola truck accident attorneys understand that the victims of such accidents are at a high likelihood of suffering serious and even fatal injuries. If you or a loved one has suffered losses in such a crash, you have the right to pursue compensation from the at-fault parties.
