San Mateo County Motorcycle-Car Collision Ends in Fatality

A 28-year-old man from San Francisco was fatally injured on August 6 in Woodside when he struck a vehicle entering Woodside Road while riding his motorcycle. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, according to the Redwood City Patch.

The accident occurred when the man was riding west on Woodside Road on his Suzuki motorcycle and then collided with a Lexus sedan driven by a 72-year-old man that was pulling out of Menlo Country Club. The motorcyclist suffered blunt force trauma in the course of the accident and was taken to Stanford Hospital where he died from his injuries.

According to investigators, the motorcyclist was traveling the speed limit and was wearing a helmet. Additionally, the Lexus driver was cooperative with police and stayed at the scene of the San Mateomotorcycle accident. An investigation is ongoing and it has not been determined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

Motorcycle-car collisions frequently result in fatal injuries for motorcyclists due to the sudden and serious impact of the crash. While helmets help to reduce the risk of suffering a traumatic brain injury in the crash, the number one cause of death for motorcyclists in a fatal crash, there are many other fatal injuries which may occur. Being thrown from the bike, as well as coming into direct physical contact with a speeding vehicle, can inflict serious injuries upon the body of a motorcyclist.
