When San Jose police investigated the scene of a rollover accident off
Highway 101 in San Jose on May 8, they were unable to find the driver
who had been in the vehicle, but one week later, he was found unconscious
near the scene of the crash. As reported by the
Associated Press, the man was found on May 15 unconscious in a thicket of brush and trees
below a Highway 101 off-ramp when the California Highway Patrol (CHP)
went back to the scene to investigate the crash.
When the accident originally occurred, witnesses reported seeing a man
climb out of an overturned truck and leave the area after the vehicle
had rolled over on Highway 101. The man was reported missing by family
members when he failed to appear at a funeral two days after the crash
and was last heard from on the day of the accident. When detectives thought
they might be able to learn more about the crash and the whereabouts of
the man, they searched the area once again, finally finding the man.
One CHP officer has described the discovery as a “miracle”
as the victim survived for a week without food or water. It is currently
unknown if the man was unconscious for the duration of the week he was
missing as police have not yet been able to talk to him. He is currently
listed under critical condition at a local hospital.
