Alameda Personal Injury Lawyers

Alameda, California, is located in the San Francisco Bay area and is known for spectacular views of scenic skylines, including the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Alameda, which means "grove of poplar trees," was formally organized in December 1884, and in January 1885 its Official Seal was approved and adopted. The land was previously part of a Spanish land grant and that was given to Luis Peralta by the California Governor in 1818. According to the State Department of Finance, the city of Alameda has a population of 74,405 (as of January 2006). In the year 2000, it was reported that there were 30,226 households in Alameda. The median household income, as of a 2007 estimate, was $56,285.

The city is located on a small island next to Oakland, and is only 23.0 square miles in size, with less than 50% of that consisting of land (10.8 square miles of land vs. 12.2 square miles of water). Vehicular access to the island is limited to three bridges in Oakland. The speed limit on most Alameda roads is only 25 mph. This law is vigorously enforced by authorities, and many of Alameda's residents advocate for this enforcement. Needless to say, reckless driving practice is not appreciated in the city of Alameda. Emblematic of this is Alameda's pedestrian/bicycle-only drawbridge, the only such structure in the United States today.

With such close proximity to one another on such a small island, the residents of Alameda are susceptible to personal injury, particularly when visitors to Alameda travel on Alameda roads. Encompassed by the beautiful California coast, the Alameda shoreline attracts beach-goers and wind surfers. On the Fourth of July, Alameda plays host to one of the largest and longest running parades in the United States. Needless to say, with such an influx of visitors to Alameda, there is a definite increase in the number of personal injury accidents that are bound to occur.
