Getting a Good Laugh in San Jose during National Humor Month

The arrival of spring is often a time of celebration, but while the weather may be warming up a bit and the hours of sunlight lasting longer, springtime also means rain, allergy season, and taxes. That’s why in 1976, a comedian and author named Larry Wilde decided to dedicate the month of April to spreading awareness for the many benefits of laughter and humor. For instance, did you know that laughter decreases your body’s production of the stress hormone cortisone and strengthens your immune system with increased T-cells, antibodies, and immune proteins?

To help you celebrate National Humor Month, the law firm of Caputo & Van Der Walde LLP would like to encourage you to participate in the following laugh-inspiring activities:

Spend time with others – Most genuine laughter is born out of social situations, so don’t put off spending some time with your friends and family. Organize a game night, watch a funny movie, or just head out for happy hour and a local restaurant and enjoy the company of your favorite (and funniest) loved ones.

Visit an amusement park – Fortunately for San Jose residents, Raging Waters, Happy Hollow Park & Zoo, and California’s Great America are all within driving distance. You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy roller coasters, petting zoos, and arcades. Grab a friend or two and spend a day playing at your favorite amusement park.

Check out a comedy club – San Jose is home to plenty of comedy clubs to choose from any day of the week. Comedy Sportz and the Improve Comedy Club are both conveniently located in downtown San Jose and feature some of the best reviewed acts in town.

Get a pet – It may be well known that caring for a pet can be fun and enjoyable, but there are also numerous studies that show that pets help reduce stress and anxiety, and even inspire laughter. Who hasn’t played with a puppy and found themselves laughing?

Bring humor into your everyday life – Read up on some of the funniest jokes and stories and share them with your friends. If you feel like you are in a rut, get out of your comfort zone and try a new activity, such as laughter yoga or karaoke. Find what makes you laugh and remember to indulge in humor on a daily basis. If anyone questions you, remind them that it’s good for your health.
